A Blend of Malt Whiskey Finished in PX and Oloroso Sherry Casks

Our journey with Patience began with our very first blending trials. While we created an immediate standout, we sensed it was missing something essential to achieve legendary status: the depth of sherry. We found just what we needed in high-quality, third-fill Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez barrels, previously used to finish Kentucky bourbon. After 18 months in these ex-sherry casks, the whiskey matured to reveal rich layers of aged stone fruit, delicate peat smoke, and sweet caramel, all culminating in a smooth, lingering finish.

 

We employed a meticulous slow-proofing process, gradually adding water to the sherry barrels over the course of six months, one pound at a time. This patient approach allowed us to reach the ideal proof, perfectly enhancing the whiskey’s complexity without overshadowing its subtle notes.

 

We named this blend Patience as a testament to the nearly two-year journey it took to craft it. Now, with time and care poured into every bottle, we’re proud to share this exceptional creation, born of passion and perfected through patience.

    Nestled in the foothills of the Flat Irons of the Rocky Mountains, Boulder Spirits is dedicated to creating world class malt whiskey that we think is absolutely delicious. Their peated single malt in particular is a major stand out for us releasing reminiscent aromas of Islay, while providing a balanced punch from the #3 char new Kelvin Cooperage barrels. Boulder Spirits possesses the largest pot still in Colorado, which was hand made in Scotland and absolutely sets them apart from other single malt producers we have encountered (so far), which is why it was such a dominating piece of this blend.

    A part of Journeyman’s experimental line, this peated malt whiskey from Michigan is a punch in the face, so much so, that we started calling it “Our-beg” in the blending lab. We wanted just a bit more of peated goodness for this blend, and the Journeymen peated single malt absoluley delivers in dialing up those earthy smokey notes we love so dearly.

    We could have stopped at 2 peated whiskeys and called it a day, but we want to make this blend a bit more interesting by adding a touch of fruit to play along with the sherry notes. We incorporated just a touch of 10-year-old single malt from Brooklyn, NY. Brueckelen is a true renegade in the distilling world, doing things their own way and sourcing their grains just up the river in the Hudson Valley and incorporating a unique distilling style to create a truly characteristic whiskey profile.
