Rye whiskey has always had a special place in our hearts. Forward/Slash was founded on the idea that whiskey should be shared generously with friends. That’s why we thought it would be fitting to name our first straight Rye blend after two of our best customers and friends. Thornhurst is the combination of both of their last names, cheers to you Chris and Ryan! We dedicate this whiskey to the friends we have made along the way and to those we have yet to meet

    Journeyman – Tree Oaks, Michigan
    An organic whiskey distilled from 60% Rye and 40% wheat undergoing a single distillation run through a custom two-story tall Vendome Still. Aged in Independent Stave Company No. 3 charred oak barrels since 2018, this beautifully complex and balanced rye serves as our backbone for this blend.

    Dad’s Hat – Bristol, Pennsylvania
    The resurrectors of Pennsylvania Rye, a classic but forgotten style. Herman Mihalich worked with Michigan State University for 2 years perfecting the Dad’s Hat’s Rye recipe until they began filling barrels in 2011. They utilize rye grain that is grown in the same county as their distillery by the Mease family, whose lands have been bountifully providing rye grain to distilleries since 1716. Distilled twice through a custom pot still Dad’s Hat has a unique mashbill of 80% rye, 15% malted barley, and 5% malted rye. This rye rested exclusively in 53 gallon Char No. 3 barrels from McGinnis of Missouri which were laid down in 2018.

    Breuckelen Distilling – Brooklyn, New York
    Utilizing a mashbill of 100% Rye grain sourced from New York state, Breuckelen creates a truly unique rye whiskey experience that if you know about it, you will never forget it, frankly, it’s one of the best rye whiskeys we have ever had. Distilled on a Coffey Style Column Still, this whiskey was aged in No.3 charred oak barrels from Kelvin Cooperage from 2019. Imparting an herbal dessert pastry note to our blend.

    Manifest Distilling Co. Jacksonville, FL
    One of our favorite distilleries in our home state, Manifest has had a strong commitment to creating Florida Rye since its inception in 2016. The rye we used in this blend is one of the last barrel fills of their old recipe which has the same formula as Journeyman’s: 60% organic rye, 40% organic wheat aged in a No. 3 char, 53 gallon barrel from Barrel Mill of Minnesota. This barrel was laid down in early 2018 and brings a ton of baking spice and structure to balance out the other soft and floral ryes we utilized.
